I don’t really have any observations this month. I feel like being a week late with what is literally my only contribution to the mixers club removes my right / obligation for any insight in this process. I’m a shambolic heap of broken promises and lowered expectations in the rough shape of a man. It is more comfortable that I’d care to admit.
The theme for march is tobaccos. I’m sure someone could come up with a conceptual hook, but that someone is not the aforementioned grotesquerie that I have become.
So, tobaccos… the way I see it, you have a couple of lanes.
There are people who’d rather try to emulate combustible tobacco products. They are brave and noble. They should be lauded and indulged. I’m not sure you’ll ever wholly duplicate the perverse satisfaction of the first or last cigarette of the day but your efforts are appreciated. Chase that dream.
I fall into the second camp, those who use tobacco flavors as another flavoring element in a recipe. In a field dominated by the cloyingly sweet tobaccos can lend earthy or savory touches to recipes. You can explore flavors without suffering the knee-jerk criticism from the id-driven sugar fiends that almost wholly represent the vaping audience.
Whether you chase the impossible dream or just wish to broaden your horizons, I wish you luck.
Godspeed and ashtray taste, you degenerates.
As always, themes are optional. You can always retreat to your whipped cream and caramel drizzles if the big, bad leaves scare you.
Submissions are due to our state-of-the-art Texas distribution center by the 15th of March. You probably want to get them in the mail by the 9th.
